Happy New Years Eve

There are obviously a million things going on tonight worth checking out. Unfortunately, most of them are sold out. However, there are a few events that will still have tickets. You could try Pianos, for instance, where Passion Pit will be DJing the shit out of the night. Tickets won't be cheap at the door, if their are any at all, but if you do get there early to nab one you'll enjoy a three hour open bar (with the top shelf) and a midnight champagne toast with one of my personal favorite DJs.

There is a good lineup at Shea Stadium in BK. The Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt! and Ghost Mall will be there as well as the death metal LITURGY. That will be going all night and into the morning.

The Market Hotel is hosting Mister Saturday Night's party. They'll a few decent DJs as usual and an open bar as well as some sort of goodies and surprises. This could be a great time, the people are always very friendly and ready to socialize with strangers, so if your in the area with $60 to drop check it out.

Check out Brooklyn Vegan's lists of events for some more ideas.

If you can't find a live music venue to hit up, there are parties everywhere, including my bar (where I will be working). Stop by at 626 Vanderbilt, Plan B, for a drink with me and the rest of our staff. If you mention The Brooklyn Night, you will receive a drink on me, as always.

Happy New Year!

love,
Jake

Titus Andronicus and other New Years Eve Party Hardies

Titus Andronicus - well-loved lo-fi post-punk act from Jersey - is playing Mercury Lounge on New Years Eve. Their are still tickets available but you might want to get on it cause they're good and, well, it's New Years Eve; everybody and their mother will be trying to get in somewhere. Opening the late night set - starts at 1:30 - are The So So Glos. Earlier in the evening at Mercury are the Detroit Cobras, preceded by The A-Bones and The Underthings.

Also on the Bowery's bill are The Word, Robert Randolph's project that came before the Family Band. He'll be playing with John Medeski (of Medeski, Martin and Wood) and North Mississippi All-Stars. This is mostly a jam band kind of gig but it will definitely be enjoyable and all players will be nothing short of virtuoso.

Soulive, another funk/jam act, is sold out at Music Hall of Williamsburg; Patti Smith and Her Band (as billed) is sold out at Bowery Ballroom.

Gogol Bordello for two more nights

Gogol Bordello is in the middle of a three night stint at Webster Hall in NYC. I had the privilege of catching Gogol Bordello at Bonnaroo in 2008 and was thoroughly impressed by their energy and excitement. You'll recognize them by their gypsy getups and music something close to what you'd get if you took World Inferno, (early) Against Me!, and Beirut and threw them into your household cuisinart. Tickets are sold out but, as always, their are scalpers to be taken advantage of. Webster Hall is general admission so show up early for a good spot.

Adult Swim ATL remixes

Adult Swim recently released a compilation featuring a number of indie groups' remixes of various ATL acts such as Young Jeezy (whose mix I found pretty hilarious), Cee-Lo, Gucci, Playboy-Tre, etc. Here is one track that I liked. You can get the whole comp for free here. Thanks to Gorilla vs. Bear for this one.
